Mike Jones sought out a volunteer position with JFS several months ago, wanting hands-on experience in a nonprofit organization. He began working as a volunteer for the Communications Department in March 2012, and has become a valued member of the JFS family!
Have you ever wanted to snoop in your boss’ desk? Well,
that’s what I got to do... but the documents were 50 years old!
JFS keeps its archives at Cal State
Northridge- it had been a while since anyone had visited the archives, so a few weeks ago, our team went to check it out. We found hundreds of boxes of letters,
documents, records, photos and videos. Because of what we found, I am now working on a project to “connect
the dots” between the original organization that was founded more than 150 years ago, and the JFS that serves the community today.
I went
behind the scenes to read about why immigration laws impacted JFS and how the
agency adapted to the changes. I saw documents that founded various social
services to the community.
When the project is complete, I think that everyone will feel
good about their connection to JFS. I’m glad to be a part of this project!
